.DISCUSSION...

Summer-like heat with daytime showers and thunderstorms will
continue to be the main weather highlights into early next week amid
a somewhat stagnant weather pattern. Nearly identical thunderstorm
chances as yesterday exist this afternoon as the greatest likelihood
(30-50%) favors the Sierra in Alpine and Mono County. Elsewhere,
lesser chances of 10-30% reside around the Tahoe Basin towards I-80
and the Sierra Front. Northward/eastward propagating outflows will
continue to serve as the mechanism for thunderstorm formation in the
Greater Reno-Carson-Minden area, particularly in the 4-8 PM PDT
timeframe when convection to the south and west is well underway. By
Sunday and Monday, greater thunderstorm chances expand farther north
and east towards Lassen County and the US-95 corridor, respectively.

Temperatures slowly warm over the weekend in response to approaching
high pressure with daytime highs plateauing in the mid-80s to mid-
90s from Sunday to Tuesday. These July-like highs will yield
moderate HeatRisk in the lower valleys of northeast California and
western Nevada this weekend through midweek. Stay hydrated and limit
time in the heat if planning any weekend outdoor activities! High
pressure weakens by midweek, reducing afternoon thunderstorm chances
and providing steady cooling after Monday. Weak trough passages
appear likely under a low-amplitude pattern, resulting in periods of
increased winds from mid to late week. As such, elevated to critical
fire weather conditions may return next week, along with travel and
recreation impacts.

.AVIATION...

Periods of fog and IFR/LIFR conditions will persist at KTRK through
15Z before mixing out. Otherwise, VFR conditions and light breezes
prevail through the morning.

Thunderstorms continue to be the main weather concern today with
KMMH and KTVL having the best odds (20-30%) of thunderstorms during
the 20-03Z timeframe. A 10-30% chance of storms will exist for all
other terminals this afternoon. Expect gusty outflows and sudden
wind shifts, small hail, and lightning with any thunderstorms.
